DXL makes $12 million commitment to St. Jude

DXL Men’s Apparel has made a commitment to raise $12 million to name a cutting-edge cellular imaging center at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The commitment from DXL, our partner since 2005, will result in an important research facility inside the Danny Thomas Research Center being named the ‘Light Microscopy Center presented by DXL Men’s Apparel.’

“Supporters like you give St. Jude and our Board the courage to dream big, and the monumental occasion we are marking today is one important example of how DXL Men’s Apparel makes possible the vision of our hospital’s leaders,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude.

“This partnership truly helps St. Jude find more cures and save more lives across the country and around the world.”

The Cell and Tissue Center is equipped with both light microscopy and electron microscopy that allows researchers to create time-lapse videos scientists use to watch the inner mechanisms of the body, searching for disease markers and the action of biological agents. Light microscopy also allows researchers to view structures or molecules within cells, or to view the interaction between molecules.

The center is another example of how St. Jude scientists have cutting-edge technology at their disposal to help their research and improve patient care.

The work at St. Jude to accelerate progress toward more cures is part of a multi-billion dollar strategic expansion plan which St. Jude announced in 2015. The plan includes new research and clinical care facilities, housing for more patients and plans to help more children around the world.
