Winnie Wanjiru Leah Njuguna is a Project Coordinator, Global Nursing Program for the department of Global Pediatric Medicine.
Winnie is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in Child Nursing from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Her experience in nursing spans more than 18 years and includes various nursing and leadership roles. The bulk of her experience is in the vibrant and busy Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Kenya where her roles included quality and patient safety, general pediatrics, trauma and emergency, and pediatric oncology. She is passionate about improving outcomes of children with cancer in the region through education of the nursing workforce, research, and evidence-based practice.
Winnie is a certified instructor for resuscitation courses such as Emergency Assessment and Treatment plus Admission care (ETAT+), Pediatric Immediate Life Support (PILs), Newborn Life Support, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS). She strives to ensure clinicians are equipped with the knowledge and skills for early recognition and prompt treatment of seriously ill newborns and children.
Winnie is looking forward to joining St. Jude as a Project Coordinator, Global Nursing for the department of Global Pediatric Medicine. She believes this experience will challenge her professionally and impact a larger population of children and adolescents with cancer in low- or middle-income countries.
Aside from work, Winnie loves traveling and exploring new places, hiking, and listening to music.
