Application to the St. Jude National Symposium for Undergraduate Research (NSUR) is by invitation only to a select group of undergraduate, master’s or postbac students who have either met a St. Jude recruiter or have been nominated by a faculty member from their university. To be considered for the NSUR, please complete the application form and submit all requested supporting documentation. The deadline for receipt of all application materials is 12:00 pm (CST) on April 20, 2021. Only complete applications submitted by the application deadline along with all requested supporting documentation will be considered by the selection committee.
Participation in the NSUR is limited to US citizens and permanent residents enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or postbac programs at institutions located within the United States. NSUR participants should plan to attend graduate school within the next 1-2 years. Additionally, participants are required not to have committed to a graduate school before the symposium dates. You will be asked to verify that you meet these eligibility requirements on the application form.
Students selected to participate in the NSUR are required to attend for the entire duration of the symposium. Travel arrangements for participants will be made by the St. Jude Travel Office per St. Jude travel policies. The NSUR schedule, transportation, and lodging arrangements cannot accommodate companion travel or the inclusion of individuals other than selected participants in symposium events. Please review the schedule for the NSUR as outlined in your email invitation to apply and verify that you are available to travel and participate in NSUR events anytime on Sunday, June 6, 2021 through Wednesday, June 9, 2021. You will be asked to confirm your availability for these dates on the application form.
Your CV and an abstract of the research you would like to present at the NSUR must be submitted along with your completed application. Only CVs and abstracts submitted as Microsoft Word documents will be accepted. Your CV must not exceed four (4) pages in length. Abstracts are limited to 350 words and must contain the title and list of authors at the top of the word document. Abstract titles must not exceed 100 total characters (including spaces), however title and authorship lines do not count towards the 350 word limit for the abstract. Abstracts should not include any figures. Please verify that your CV and abstract conform to these format and length restrictions before submitting your application.
Students selected to participate in the NSUR will be required to present a poster and give a 3-minute oral presentation on their submitted abstract. Please note that the abstract and abstract title submitted with your application will be used to advertise both your oral and poster presentation at the NSUR, if you are selected to attend. A letter of support from your undergraduate research advisor is also required for your application to be considered for the NSUR. This letter must be submitted on the provided reference form and must be emailed directly from your advisor to the NSUR coordinator at NSUR@stjude.org before 12:00 pm (CST) on April 20, 2021. You will be asked to verify that you have sent the reference form that was attached to your email invitation to your undergraduate research advisor and to provide your advisor’s full name and email address on the application form.
