We are seeking a motivated and creative individual to join our team as a Visual Arts Photography and Graphic Design Intern for the department of Strategic Communication Education and Outreach. This internship offers a unique opportunity to apply photography and graphic design skills in a healthcare setting as we seek to improve the overall patient and family experience through visual storytelling.

As a Visual Arts Intern at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, you will play an important role in helping us convey the compassionate and caring nature of our hospital through visual media. This internship provides a unique opportunity for you to collaborate with a creative team and gain hands-on experience in both photography and graphic design. As you develop your skills you will build a meaningful portfolio and contribute to projects that make a positive impact on our patients, families, and health care professionals at St. Jude and across the world.

    1. Currently enrolled in a degree program related to photography, graphic design, visual arts, or a relevant field (preferred).
    2. A strong passion for visual storytelling and a creative mindset.
    3. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.).
    4. Basic knowledge of photography equipment and techniques.
    5. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
    6. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

    Required upon application: A portfolio, or relevant work samples, showcasing photography and graphic design skill.

  1. Photography:

    • Collaborate with team members and other hospital staff to plan and execute studio and on-location photo sessions that highlight various aspects of healthcare, including patient care and medical facilities.
    • Capture high-quality images that tell compelling stories and align with department initiatives and overall mission of the hospital.
    • Edit and retouch photos to meet quality and branding standards.
    • Assist in the organization and maintenance of a digital image library for hospital use by ensuring photos are properly loaded in the digital asset management system with the correct tags and metadata.

    Graphic Design:

    • Create visually engaging graphics for a range of digital and print materials materials, including handouts, social media content, and promotional collateral.
    • Work closely with the other members of the visual arts team to ensure brand consistency in all design elements.
    • Translate medical information into easily understandable and visually appealing infographics and educational materials.
    • Prepare files for both print and digital distribution.

    Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with team members and other hospital staff to conceptualize and execute visual projects.
    • Attend meetings and actively participate in project planning and brainstorming sessions.
    • Contribute creative ideas and suggestions to enhance visual communication strategies.
    • Assist in organizing and maintaining photography equipment and studio spaces.
    • Practical experience in applying your photography and graphic design skills in a healthcare setting.
