Let’s end childhood cancer. Together.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the kids of St. Jude are in the fight of their lives. Join St. Jude in the fight to end childhood cancer.
From patient ... To survivor ... To working for St. Jude
Seventeen years ago, Jessica was fighting for her life when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 9 years old. Now, a childhood cancer survivor, she works in fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Jessica’s St. Jude journey began over the summer after a family vacation. She was having night sweats and a persistent fever. After more than 20 blood tests, doctors finally found the cause of her illness — cancer.
Her treatment consisted of two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy, and when she finished treatment, she participated in the After Completion of Therapy Clinic (ACT) at St. Jude. The ACT Clinic helped monitor her post-cancer progress and health. Once she graduated from high school, she also graduated from the ACT Clinic. Jessica says, “I’m forever thankful for all that St. Jude has done for me.”
St. Jude has remained a large part of Jessica’s life. Today, Jessica is part of St. Jude’s LIFE Study, which monitors the health of survivors after active treatment ends. And she recently celebrated her first wedding anniversary, in addition to her 17th “cancer”versary. Thank you for helping patients like Jessica celebrate more and more anniversaries each year.
