When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
St. Jude cares for some of the world’s sickest children regardless of their race, ethnicity, beliefs, or ability to pay. Our patients receive the customized care they need to treat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases, no matter what barriers they may face.

Meet Sariyah
In the summer of 2020, photos posted to social media by Sariyah’s mom showed, at certain angles, a glow resembling a full moon in the child’s eye. She soon learned Sariyah had cancerous tumors in both eyes at the age of 18 months. The family was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Sariyah’s parents have had to witness their baby undergoing intensive chemotherapy, eye injections, laser therapy, cryotherapy and more, but “the moment we walked in, I felt comfort,” said her mom. “I can’t help but feel peace.”
This doesn’t mean it’s easy; but the trust they have in Sariyah’s care team, and the fact that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food—so they can focus on helping their child live.
Sariyah, who loves flamingoes, cuddling and Barbie dolls, continues to receive treatment at St. Jude, and her parents continue to have faith.
Meet Ay'Den
When Ay’Den collapsed in December 2020, his family was afraid he had COVID-19. They never imagined he would be diagnosed with leukemia instead. Ay’Den was quickly referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where he began receiving chemotherapy.
A gentle kid with a ready smile – a “sweetheart,” said his mom – Ay’Den likes coloring, dogs and video games. His mom was surprised to find out how much St. Jude does for families. Seeing her child through cancer during a pandemic was hard, but, said Ay’Den’s mom, “St. Jude made us comfortable. I don’t know what I would have done without them.”
Ay’Den has now successfully finished cancer treatment.
