St. Jude Community Garden Volunteer Opportunities

Have a green thumb? Help provide nourishment for our patients by volunteering in the St. Jude Garden.

 

COVID-19 Notice to Volunteers

For the safety of our patients and families, we are not accepting applications for new volunteers at this time. 

We hope to open applications in early 2022.  

 
 

Come and help us grow our St. Jude garden. Garden volunteers assist in the planning, construction, planting, mulching, weeding, watering and harvesting of vegetables used in the Kay Kafe. Grab your gloves and sunscreen and join us in the garden!

Seasonal Garden duties include:

Fall & early winter

  • Remove old summer crops
  • Weeding
  • Starting seeds in trays/directly into rows
  • Filling beds with compost/mulch (soil remediation)
  • Turning compost
  • Building frost-protective structures for beds

Late winter & spring

  • Remove fall/winter crops
  • Bed preparation: shoveling and adding compost
  • Starting seeds indoors
  • Transplanting seedlings
  • Watering and mulching beds
  • Harvesting and weighing produce

Summer

  • Bed preparation: shoveling and adding compost
  • Transplanting seedlings
  • Starting new seed trays
  • Weeding
  • Harvesting and weighing produce

Requirements

A love for gardening and working outdoors is a must for all volunteer volunteers.

Volunteers must be physically able to stand, walk, kneel, sit, bend and lift repetitively. You must be able to communicate effectively with staff and follow specific instructions.

Shifts are available Tuesday through Saturday. Time varies based on season.
