A View from the Laboratory: Basic Science and Translational Research

Key St. Jude supporters and stakeholders were invited to participate in a conference call to hear how St. Jude is changing the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer.

Richard C. Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC/St. Jude, was joined by Michael Dyer, Ph.D., director of the Division of Developmental Biology and co-leader of the Developmental Biology and Solid Tumor Program at St. Jude. Dr. Dyer shared updates about his research and what sets St. Jude apart from other hospitals.

Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC/St. Jude, was joined by Richard Gilbertson, MD, PhD, Scientific and Cancer Center Director. Dr. Gilbertson shared his insights into the incredible progress we have made in the battle against pediatric cancer, some of the current challenges we face and what the future holds for research and treatment of the world’s youngest cancer patients.

They discussed how our After Completion of Therapy Program and our St. Jude LIFE Study are helping us understand the long-term effects of childhood cancer and its treatment so we can continue our important work to develop better therapies with fewer side effects.
