A brilliant gift

Bob and Eileen Hutton used the proceeds from Eileen's audio book company to leave a legacy at St. Jude.

Books have played a huge part in the lives of Bob and Eileen Hutton; Eileen, a librarian, spent much of her career building an audio book empire.

Now, as they write the next chapter of their lives, Bob and Eileen feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all the blessings life has bestowed on them: a happy marriage of 49 years, two very successful careers, two wonderful children and two grandsons. “We really have led charmed lives,” Eileen states. “Helping the children of St. Jude is our way of giving back.”

I have grandkids, and, thank God, none of them have had any life-threatening illnesses," Bob says. "What I like best about St. Jude is that they share all their information with people all over the world. They are not in it for the money, and they do cutting-edge things that others don't do and can't afford to do.

When the Huttons decided to retire, Eileen sold her interest in her audio book company, Brilliance Audio, and they created a charitable remainder trust with the proceeds from the sale, making St. Jude one of the main beneficiaries.

With each visit to the hospital, the Hutton’s life story and the St. Jude story become more intertwined. Bob explains, “When you walk through the hospital and you see the joy in these halls, how can you not want to be a part of that?”
