St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ranks first on the list of places top students and young professionals want to work, according to a survey conducted by the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
In the survey, 9,000 outstanding high school students, college students and young professionals were asked to rank their preferred companies to work for from a list of more than 200 organizations.
“Millennials like to have real-world impact, and St. Jude provides an ability every day to help find cures for children with cancer and make a difference in the lives of families,” said Dr. William E. Evans, St. Jude director and CEO. “We work hard to have a culture of compassion, collaboration, innovation and quality in all we do. Millennials tend to be very interactive and social people, so our culture and ideals ring true.”
The survey charts the preferences and attitudes of high-achieving millennials in the areas of career choices, employers, workplace environment, technology and communications. This year’s rankings noted an increased focus in health and technology fields, with eight of the top 25 companies being hospitals or health service companies and organizations.
NSHSS is an international honor society recognizing outstanding academic excellence of high school and college scholars globally. This is the sixth year NSHSS has conducted the survey. The list of companies on the survey were those previously included on top employer listings such as FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” and “Global 500” lists, DiversityInc’s “Top 50 Companies for Diversity” list as well as popular write-in choices from prior surveys. Respondents were given the opportunity to select up to three companies and were also allowed to provide write-in choices.
St. Jude has been on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for three consecutive years and on The Scientist magazine’s “Best Places to Work in Academia” list for seven years.
