The Power of Partnership

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® was founded based on a lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.® But, we can't do it alone. Because of the dedicated support of partners like Amazon, St. Jude is able to lead the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Finding a cure is no easy feat. But the chances of a world where no child dies from cancer are higher because of you.

Support with a Smile

When it comes to Amazon's focus on community giving, you leave no stone unturned; providing resources to the next generation of innovators. The relationships you've built across the globe have allowed you not only to grow but also to serve others.

St. Jude joined the AmazonSmile program during its launch in 2014. The program has generated $8.3 million for St. Jude to date and has made St. Jude one of the top benefiting charities. In April 2018, Amazon enabled technology that allows Alexa device users to donate using voice commands such as, “Alexa, donate $50 to St. Jude.” Amazon promoted the Alexa campaign by featuring St. Jude in a national ad campaign. Amazon Pay was added to St. Jude online donation forms as an additional donation payment method in 2018, and since then, St. Jude supporters have donated more than $2 million through Amazon Pay.

By cultivating a spirit of giving within your organization, your generosity has cemented our partnership and helped ensure that families will never receive a bill from St. Jude.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

As part of your Childhood Cancer Awareness Month efforts, Amazon made a generous $500,000 donation to help support our lifesaving mission. Amazon also made a first-time commitment to forming national Walk/Run teams, with more than 3,000 Amazonians raising over $90,000 through peer-to-peer fundraising efforts. You also donated $5 to St. Jude for every guest who toured an Amazon fulfillment center across the U.S. during September. More than 12,000 guests generated $60,000 for St. Jude. You also served as the $25,000 sponsor of the Peoria Telethon on August 3.

Amazon also hosted your first patient family event on the campus of St. Jude on September 23, providing an amazing and engaging Amazon Robotics popup lab STEM event that included robot building and other fun activities for patient families. Volunteers were recruited to staff the event from Amazon distribution centers in Memphis and Nashville who were so moved by the event, they shared that they would like to continue to engage with St. Jude.

St. Jude President & CEO, Richard Shadyac, participated in a childhood cancer panel at Amazon headquarters on September 6 as part of Amazon's kickoff to your Amazon Goes Gold campaign. During the event, Amazon hosted St. Jude and other charity partner patient families for tours of the Amazon Spheres and STEM activities and concluded the event with the children lighting the spheres gold, officially kicking off the Amazon Goes Gold campaign.

The values you continuously instill throughout your corporation—quality, value, service, innovation and heritage—are the values that create an immense and invaluable partnership between Amazon and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Thank you, Amazon, for your gifts of giving, and for being a beacon of hope for St. Jude children and their families.
