Because of the dedicated support of partners like Best Buy, St. Jude is able to lead the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Finding a cure is no easy feat. But the chances of a world where no child dies from cancer is higher because of you.

Once again, Best Buy stepped up as a valuable partner for St. Jude as a top fundraising partner for the fourth year in a row. With a partnership like yours—one that unleashes the power of people—the possibilities at St. Jude are endless.

To kick off the 2019 campaign, you featured St. Jude patient and current Best Buy employee Denton Olson (left) and his best friend and Best Buy co-worker, Christian Crawford (right). Denton shared his St. Jude patient story and about how proud he was to work for a company that gives back to such a great cause.

Ray Sliva, President of Retail, also inspired the Best Buy team by challenging them to raise more for St. Jude and shared our mission with passion.

Additionally, you allowed St. Jude the opportunity to provide a virtual reality experience for your field teams in addition to offering a place for employees to sign up and pick up their Best Buy co-branded This Shirt Saves Lives t-shirt.

 

Doing More for the Kids of St. Jude

Because you understand the needs of St. Jude, and how we work to enhance the lives of every patient, you added multiple new elements to your 2019 Thanks and Giving campaign. We were thrilled to be able to update your in-store collateral and your in-store video wall to include a QR code and Text to Give option for customers to give on the spot. During the 2019 campaign, online and in-store shoppers helped make a difference by donating $1, 5 or $10. You once again optimized your online shopping cart this year and have seen significant revenue growth. This has resulted in $22.5 million for the kids of St. Jude.

To raise awareness, you featured St. Jude pin-ups, register cards, patient artwork and a customized video on your in-store tv walls. You also invited social media fans and followers to support the campaign through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and your corporate blog. Best Buy executives and regional leadership kept participation and momentum strong by tracking employee/store goals and promoting activities on your HUB intranet site.

For the second year in a row, you launched a very successful employee payroll deduction campaign where employees who committed to be a St. Jude Partner in Hope for $20 a month received a customized, blue co-branded St. Jude/Best Buy This Shirt Saves Lives t-shirt. We are thrilled that over 1,800 employees have met this challenge, raising more than $495,000 for St. Jude

Ray Sliva named every Tuesday “St. Jude” day in stores, and allowed Best Buy employees to wear their St. Jude shirts as a part of the store uniform. During this unprecedented campaign, your employees proudly represented your culture as a values-driven, human organization dedicated to helping the communities in which you operate. Best Buy employees even went so far as to post St. Jude moments of their teams wearing their blue This Shirt Saves Lives shirts.

 
 

Helping Hands, Caring Heart

Every year, Best Buy goes above and beyond to bring joy to our patients, volunteer time and support St. Jude causes locally and across the country.

In March, Best Buy held its annual GM Incentive Trip, where the top fundraising store GMs and team members won a trip to St. Jude. The teams toured the hospital and also hosted a fun, filled “graffiti-themed” patient event that included video games, silent disco, Geek Squad Academy technology activities, face painting and crafts. It was such a memorable day to celebrate the partnership between St. Jude and Best Buy.

Your team continues to provide volunteer support to our St. Jude dinners, galas and golf events across the country, using the latest technology to enrich both our partnership and the lives of St. Jude kids.

Additionally, Best Buy was a $10,000 sponsor of the 2019 Minneapolis St. Jude Teen Gala and Film Festival in April. Best Buy employees will also support the 2020 St. Jude Teen Gala and Film Festival by serving as mentors to the teens who are a part of the film contest.

Best Buy employees also took time to raise money for St. Jude through our nation-wide fitness events. Five Best Buy team members participated in the 2019 St. Jude Memphis Marathon, raising over $5,000 for St. Jude.

This past July, Best Buy’s corporate cycling team along with CEO, Corie Barry attended the 2019 St. Jude Ride: Minneapolis Major event. The team raised over $2,000 for the event.

This September, over 57 local Best Buy teams participated in St. Jude Walk/Run in their communities nationwide. The Best Buy teams collectively raised over $25,000 for St Jude.

 
 

Best Buy and Domino’s successfully partnered to provide the first-ever partner collaborative patient event in September. Best Buy provided the games and technology activities, while Domino’s provided the pizza. It was an experience that all families loved and appreciated.

As a part of a new, unique activation with Facebook and Oculus, Best Buy partnered with St. Jude and these companies to offer Oculus equipment demonstrations of the St. Jude Hall of Heroes experience in 146 stores nationwide.

In 2019, we were excited to award Best Buy with the 2019 St. Jude Extraordinary Partner Performance Award for the fourth year in a row. Ray Sliva, President of Retail accepted the 2019 St. Jude Executive Champion award for his dedication to the St. Jude mission. Also on hand to receive the two awards were Kamy Scarlett, Chief Human Resources Officer; Shari Rossow, VP, Retail Operations; Tiffany Calderon, Manager, Future Workforce; and Brandon Cox, Director, Retail Operations.
