The Power of Partnership

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® was founded based on a lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.® But, we can't do it alone. Because of the dedicated support of partners like Kmart/Sears, St. Jude is able to lead the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Finding a cure is no easy feat. But the chances of a world where no child dies from cancer are higher because of you.


Going Above and Beyond

The ultimate goal of the Kmart and Sears brands is improving the lives of your customers with quality products and services for the home, while building trust and lifelong relationships. For 120 years, the relationships you've built—paired with keeping your customers' best interests at the forefront—have allowed you to serve others.

A partner since 2006, Kmart/Sears has raised more than $120 million to date, more than any partner in the history of St. Jude. In 2013, you activated pin-pad technology, helping your organization raise a record-breaking $21.9 million during a single campaign. As the top St. Jude fundraiser for seven years in a row, you also became the first partner to break the $10 million and $20 million marks for St. Jude, and to reach the $100 million milestone. In 2019, you began fundraising year-round, raising $4.6 million for the improvement of the lives of St. Jude children and their families.

Your dedication to St. Jude was recognized in 2012 with the official naming of the St. Jude LIFE & After Completion of Therapy Clinic Presented by Kmart. In July 2014, St. Jude expanded Kmart’s on-campus presence with the renaming of the building, the Kmart St. Jude Life Center.

For years, you've been a participant in the St. Jude Walk/Run, and your field and headquarters locations continue to rally around the event.

For the first time, you leveraged your email database—to highlight your partnership with St. Jude and to encourage recipients to donate to St. Jude through their new donation capable online shopping cart system. Even more, Kmart and Sears activated year-round online shopping cart add-on donations for St. Jude at kmart.com and sears.com.

To thank the group for their longstanding support and welcome Sears to the St. Jude family, ALSAC President and CEO Richard C. Shadyac Jr. spoke to both an online and in person audience of 2,400 Kmart and Sears associates at a Transformco Town Hall on May 1. The meeting was later viewed by 5,000 additional associates.

And because you always show up to support the cause, representatives from Kmart/Sears attended the Four Stars Chicago Gala.


Wrapped in Care

The 2019 St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign would not have been as successful without the dedication of partners like Kmart/Sears. You went above and beyond to show support for our 16th annual campaign and that quality cements our partnership and will continue to help ensure no family receives a bill from St. Jude for anything.

Your commitment to current as well as a new generation of donors was instrumental in building awareness for St. Jude during the holiday season. You participated in the annual campaign by encouraging shoppers to make a $1, $5 and $10 donation online or in-store at checkout in 340 stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and U.S. Virgin Islands; allowing customers to shop their way for a good cause.

Throughout the year, Kmart also sold products benefiting St. Jude, including bear ornaments and bracelets in 2019. The sales of these items helps further our research and provide excellent care to the kids of St. Jude.

In 2019, Sears stores joined Kmart in supporting St. Jude, also fundraising year-round and participating in the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign.
