A Year of Impact
With no shortage of campaigns and involvement,Southwest Airlines (SWA) is genuinely committed to the kids of St. Jude. To start, ten SWA pilots from their Adopt-A-Pilot program hosted a fantastic event in the St. Jude Pavilion, where St. Jude patients and families participated in airline themed activities such as making paper planes and testing their flying capabilities landing the plane. Southwest pilots requested to return to St. Jude and host another patient event on campus. The patients and families were thrilled to learn fun things about being a pilot. Father of St. Jude patient, Chandler and SWA pilot, Carry Howard, spoke to the pilots and shared Chandler's St. Jude journey. The SWA pilot family had embraced the Howards from day one of Chandler's St. Jude journey.
Next, you donated 1400 airline passes for patient and family travel in 2019 and 1460 airline passes for the calendar year 2020. This is a significant gift offsetting hospital air travel expenses. The cost of one pass is valued at $200. The annual value of the SWA donated airline passes is over $290,000.
Finally, you were the presenting sponsor of the San Francisco Chinese New Year Parade 2020 and chose St. Jude as the national charity! This parade is ranked as one of the top ten parades in the country, giving unprecedented awareness to our lifesaving mission.
“All of the doctors in Chile agreed that St. Jude was the best place for Lucas. The work being done at St. Jude is years ahead of anything being done in Chile.”
