Harrison Frazar, making his 355th start in a PGA TOUR event, finally captured his first tournament title at the 2011 FedEx St. Jude Classic at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. It marked the third time in the last four years that the championship was decided in a playoff. But the true winners were the patients of St. Jude, who benefit from the event. The tournament was held June 6 through June 12, 2011.
The week’s events included the Danny Thomas Pro-Am and Championship Pro-Am featuring such celebrity players such as NFL Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow; American college football coach and former player Coach Urban Meyer; Tony Thomas, son of hospital founder Danny Thomas; and Phil Donahue, Emmy® award-winning media personality, writer and film producer and husband of Marlo Thomas. In addition, players visited with St. Jude patients and their families during a special Golf-A-Round event hosted by the St. Jude Women’s Club at the hospital. The PGA TOUR Wives Association also hosted an art party for our patients during Pro-Am.
The FedEx partnership has been instrumental in helping to generate more than $24 million since 1970. And many of golf’s biggest names have been past champions of the tournament: Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Curtis Strange, Nick Price, Fred Couples, Greg Norman, Tom Kite, and Lee Westwood are all past winners of the tournament.
