Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) of the gut may cause your child to have nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The doctor may ask your child to follow a bland diet to give the gut time to heal. The list below contains bland foods that are easy to digest.
Also, following these guidelines may help reduce your child’s discomfort:
- Try to feed your child smaller meals more often. Keeping the stomach and gut from becoming too full helps the food to digest easier. This keeps the gut from working too hard.
- Your child should avoid drinking liquids with meals. Drinking liquids with meals sometimes causes the stomach to fill quickly. It is better to save liquids for between meals.
- If your child’s symptoms seem to get worse or come back after getting better, be sure to tell your child’s doctor right away.
