Godwina was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2023. She began chemotherapy treatment in Ghana, but after the cancer was found to have spread, doctors referred her to St. Jude.
Godwina and her mother, Evelyn, arrived in Memphis, Tennessee, in 2024. It was the first time they had traveled far from home.
Godwina underwent surgery to remove one of her kidneys. She is currently in treatment, which includes chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Godwina celebrated her 6th birthday in the summer of 2024 in Tennessee.
“When I came here, Godwina was very sick,” Evelyn said. “Now she’s happy and she’s growing.”

St. Jude families need us, and we need you
Treatments developed at St. Jude have helped raise the survival rate for children with cancer in the United States, where 4 out of 5 children survive cancer.
However, in many low-income countries, 1 out of 5 children who develop cancer will survive.
We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer, no matter where they live.
