In late 2017, Grit developed flu-like symptoms and stopped eating. His parents, Laura and Nolan, noticed a lump in his pelvic area.
Tests revealed that Grit had rhabdomyosarcoma, a soft tissue cancer.

Laura’s aunt, a retired oncology nurse, was familiar with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and she urged them to reach out for a referral.
Families, like Grit's, will never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything.
