I was lying on my bed, hanging out on TikTok one night in December when my mom came in my room and was like, “Hey, whatcha doing? Do you know who Megan Moroney is?”
I was like, “Ummm, yes.” I only listen to her music all the time.
She told me that Megan was coming to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® soon to perform a special concert for St. Jude families to celebrate the release of her new album, Cloud 9.
I’m a patient at St. Jude being treated for Ewing sarcoma, which is a type of bone cancer.
My mom said I was invited to not only watch her concert, but also interview her on camera one-on-one.
I was automatically excited because immediately I thought of my best friend, Abby. Megan is Abby’s favorite artist, and she’s literally gone to so many of her concerts. Of course, I listen to Megan, too. My favorite new song of hers is “Beautiful Things.” And “Tennessee Orange” is one of my favorite songs.
It was super exciting, and I ran around the house telling my three siblings.
St. Jude told me that the event would be pink themed, just like her album, so I went straight to my sister’s closet and automatically started planning out my all-pink outfit.
On the day of the event, Megan sang for St. Jude patients and their families.
That was just amazing being able to hear her in person and her being so sweet to the kids afterward and just talking to everybody and taking her time. She seemed so happy to be there.
We were all given cards so we could write down one beautiful thing in our life, and I said my family.
Then it was my turn to do our interview. In my hand, I had a list of questions to ask her in case I froze in the moment.
We hugged. At first, of course, I was nervous to say hi, like scared about how the conversation would go. But as soon as we started talking, it was literally like we’d known each other for 10 years and were just catching up. It was so much fun.
I talked to her about her favorite songs that she’s written and her favorite places she’s gone.
Each new album she puts out has a different color theme. She’s had green. She’s had blue. Now she has pink.
So, I asked her, “What made you choose pink?”
I was so excited to talk to her about all of that, and it was easy for me because it didn’t feel like an interview. It genuinely just felt like we were talking with no cameras. It was amazing just to hear everything that she’s done for St. Jude and her love of playing. It was so sweet.
We took photos together, and we did a TikTok together to one of her songs.
As soon as I left the studio, Abby saw my post, and she texted me, like “Faith??” I called her and told her everything, and she was freaking out.
She was like, “That is sick. You lucky duck.”
I was like, “Hee hee.”
We already have tickets to see Megan’s show in Oklahoma, which is amazing.
It means absolutely everything to me that Megan supports St. Jude. It’s amazing when people with such a big influence spread St. Jude awareness.
Having support from people like that is always needed. So, the fact that she took time out of her busy schedule to come see us and do whatever she could for St. Jude is so appreciated. I can’t speak for every single patient, but it’s such a blessing to have people like that just trying to do their best, and I’m really proud to call her my friend.
