Short Biography

For Andrea Stubbs, culturally congruent interventions are central to partnering with hard-to-reach minority communities to improve health outcomes. “My approach to building a network of viable community members is to use the tenets of servant leadership—encouraging diversity of thought, creating a culture of trust, embracing an unselfish mindset, and fostering leadership,” she explains. This philosophy guides her work in developing realistic, community-centered solutions that build trust and create meaningful opportunities for disease prevention.

Stubbs has demonstrated this commitment for more than 14 years with the St. Jude Comprehensive HIV Prevention and Care Program, where she first served as Coordinator and later as Manager of the HIV Community Research Program. In these roles, she prioritized translating scientific research into measurable community impact. This focus continues to shape her current work as Director of the HPV Cancer Prevention Program at St. Jude, where she leads efforts to increase human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination uptake locally and nationally to reduce HPV-related cancers.

Her leadership in advancing community-based health initiatives has earned both local and national recognition. She received the Visionary Award for West Tennessee from the Tennessee Public Health Association for developing exceptional programs that promote healthier communities. Nationally, she served for many years as chair of a network of community coordinators within the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions. She also led the Ending the HIV Epidemic initiative in Shelby County, one of 48 priority counties across the United States.

A Memphis native, Stubbs enjoys exploring the city’s culture, cuisine, and vibrant community, as well as traveling abroad with her husband, Melvin. She is a long-standing member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., a historic service organization with more than a century of impact.

Stubbs holds a PhD in Social and Behavioral Sciences from the University of Memphis School of Public Health and an MPA from Tennessee State University.
