Research Interests

Cellular Signaling in the Innate and Adaptive Immune Systems

We utilize a combination of approaches including mouse genetics, cellular immunology and biochemistry to dissect cellular signaling pathways in immune regulation. We also investigate molecular mechanisms of autoimmune and infectious diseases (multiple sclerosis, colitis, lupus and Listeriosis). Our specific interests include the following:

  • Role of the JNK and p38 MAP kinase (MAPK) pathway in T cell development, activation and differentiation (Nature Immunology 8:1236, 2007; Nature Immunology 7:851, 2006; EMBO J. 23:1576, 2004).
  • Role of sphingosine 1-phosphate signaling (S1P) and Akt-mTOR in T cell trafficking and regulatory T cell biology (Nature Immunology 10:769, 2009; Journal of Immunology 174:2485, 2005).
  • Regulation of the JNK and p38 MAP kinase (MAPK) pathway in Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling and functioning of macrophages and dendritic cells (PNAS 103:2274, 2006).
