Since the beginning of his career as a physician, Dr. Moussa’s main driver was service to under-privileged and vulnerable people, especially children. He thought that his work as a physician would allow him to access the people he wanted to serve; however, he found out that it is very difficult to achieve this goal without being in contact with the poorest and most marginalized communities. Thus, he shifted his career to the development field, where he was able to reach his goal of providing basic needs for people through mixing his medical knowledge with the knowledge he received from his MBA. His medical studies allowed him to understand and specify underprivileged communities’ needs easily, and helped him in designing and implementing suitable interventions. Meanwhile, his business expertise has allowed him to allocate available resources effectively and monitor and follow up on resource utilization efficiently. He is still seeking more knowledge to further chase his dream of alleviating the suffering of children.

Dr. Moussa earned his medical degree (MBBCh) in 2001 from the Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. After his graduation he specialized in Clinical and Chemical Pathology, specifically in Blood Transfusion Medicine.  He then received his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 2010 from the University of Akron College of Business Administration in Akron, Ohio. This program was the spark in his career shift from the direct healthcare service provision side to a wider scope of healthcare management, health systems and health policy.

In addition to his training as a physician, he received trainings in quality management, communication skills, leadership, and humanitarian technical response.

Dr. Moussa currently works in the Center for Development Services (CDS), which is a consulting firm that provides its services in the development field to international organizations, UN-related organizations, financing institutions, and local governmental and non-governmental agencies. He is the Manager of the Health Management and Research Unit in CDS, where he oversees various projects in multiple health-related areas such as family planning, sexual and reproductive health, occupational health, and health systems.

“I believe that children are the hope for a better future for humanity, but they are vulnerable, so I have always worked to support them in leading healthy and happy lives. I see the Master of Science in Global Child Health at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences as a vehicle carrying me in my journey serving children in need, and I will save no effort in using the knowledge that I have and will get in aiding children.”
