Adriana María Porras Moreno, MD, MS

Adriana Porras Moreno

Dr. Porras spent most of her kindergarten and first years of primary school wearing orthopedic shoes and correction bands around her legs, as part of her treatment for knocking knees and genu valgum. When the treatment was over, she knew she wanted to be a doctor because she wanted to help other children like her to feel better.

Dr. Porras earned her medical degree in 2013 from University of Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Dr. Porras currently works at the National Children’s Hospital in San Jose, Costa Rica, where she is an attending physician in the Hematology Oncology Department.  On a daily basis she examines patients and calculates their chemotherapy. She is also in charge of the procedure agenda to keep records of when patients need a spinal tap, bone marrow aspiration, bone marrow biopsy, or red cell blood exchange.

“St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital occupies a very unique position in my workplace and being able to collaborate here is like a dream come true. As professionals developing a career in such a challenging setting, we are responsible for being the best general practitioners we can be. I know this program will enhance my professional performance and benefit my partners and most importantly my patients.”
