Lily Gloria Tagoe, MBChB

Lily Gloria Tagoe, MBChB is a Pediatric Oncologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Accra, Ghana, where she is the Lead Physician at the Pediatric Oncology outpatient and daycare unit. She is also the Medical Lead of the Newborn Screening for Sickle Cell Disease Program, KBTH, and the Postgraduate Training Coordinator for the Department of Child Health, KBTH.

Dr Tagoe has a strong interest in the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions to address survival disparities in low-income countries. Her research interests include leukemias, lymphomas, supportive care, particularly in febrile neutropenia, and childhood cancer survivorship.

Dr. Tagoe's journey in medicine began at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana where she completed her undergraduate studies in Human Biology, followed by her medical degree (MBChB) at the same institution. Driven by a passion for pediatric care, she subsequently pursued a residency in Pediatrics at KBTH. During her residency, she was drawn to pediatric oncology, witnessing the marked disparity in survival rates between resource-limited and well-resourced countries. She however recognized the immense opportunity for impact, which led her to undertake a fellowship in Pediatric Oncology with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating in 2023.

She has been the recipient of several awards including the SIOP PODC (now Global Health) scholarship in 2019 and more recently, the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) International Development and Education Award (IDEA) in 2024, which recognized her professional achievements as an emerging leader in a low- and middle-income country.

The Masters in Global Child Health will provide her with the necessary framework and skills to translate her passion and clinical experience into impactful research and sustainable programs that will improve outcomes of children with cancer on a global scale. She is committed to dedicating her efforts to improving the childhood cancer journey for African children through the development of tailored interventions that are specifically designed to address their unique needs.
