Sandeep Jain, MBBS, DNB, joins the St. Jude Graduate School’s Master of Global Child Health program from Delhi, India, where he has spent 18 working in the field of pediatric oncology.
Jain began his journey at Government Medical College in Surat, Gujarat, India, earning a pair of degrees before spending time at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Delhi, India. He completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology in 2009 at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, also located in his hometown of Delhi.
Along with his illustrious educational journey, Jain has also served an observer in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital International Visitor Education Program under mentorship of Miguela Caniza, MD, MPH, in 2011 and at Duke University Hospital in 2014, spending several weeks with the Blood and Marrow Transplant Division.
Jain has a keen interest in doing clinical research on various aspects of childhood cancers to improve their survival and quality of life. Most of his research projects are investigator-initiated studies and he has more than 40 publications in national and international journals.
Jain is convinced that saving children’s lives in his setting depends less on discovering new drugs and more on recognizing cancer sooner. Sitting with families and realizing that precious time has already been lost is one of the most difficult aspects of her profession and over the years, he has realized that early diagnosis is the most powerful, yet most neglected, intervention in childhood cancer care. The St. Jude Graduate School represents an opportunity for Jain to shift from individual bedside care to system-level change, bridging the gap between symptoms and diagnosis through education, advocacy, and policy-driven action.
