Mavis Boahemaa Obuoh-Evans, RPN, RGN

Mavis Boahemaa Obuoh-Evans, RPN, RGN, joins the St. Jude Graduate School with research interests that span clinical care, academia, professional training, capacity building, and quality improvement. She is committed to advancing equitable healthcare delivery at all levels and is also passionate about empowering healthcare professionals through training and sustainable quality improvement (QI) initiatives. 

Her work at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as a Deputy Chief Nursing Officer has focused on pediatric healthcare advocacy, preceptorship, the training of nursing students, institutional research and staff professional development. At the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, Obuoh-Evans has contributed to specialist nursing education in general pediatrics and pediatric oncology as a faculty member, clinical educator and the senior clinical coordinator for the first two cohorts of the pediatric oncology nursing program in Ghana. 

Obuoh-Evans also led a multidisciplinary team to implement a Pediatric Early Warning Systems (PEWS) quality improvement project at Greater Accra Regional Hospital in Ghana and served as a co-mentor for a similar initiative at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya, contributing to improved early detection and care for pediatric patients.

The St. Jude Graduate School Global Child Health Program provides Obuoh-Evans a practical, interdisciplinary, and thoughtfully designed initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of international scholars to achieve meaningful global impact. Through this program, she seeks to advance her knowledge of global healthcare systems, policy development, biostatistics, and research. She is confident that the competencies she will gain will enhance her ability to advocate effectively for children with cancer and other vulnerable populations at both national and international levels.
