Thousands of essential workers at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, including our doctors, nurses, scientists, food service workers, cleaning staff, and other vital support employees have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Getting vaccinated is a critical step in ending the pandemic. We ask that you join us in being an advocate for COVID-19 vaccines in the Memphis community.

An Open Letter from James R. Downing M.D., President and CEO of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Our request is simple: Get vaccinated. In doing so, you protect yourself, your co-workers, your loved ones, and your community.

In their own words: Employees tell why they got the vaccine

We know the COVID-19 vaccine helps prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death

During the past months, St. Jude has created one of the safest harbors against COVID-19 in the nation. Protective measures have included a first-of-its-kind COVID-19 screening program for employees, patients, and families; reduced campus access; and heightened infection-control procedures. Once COVID-19 vaccines were authorized for use, we immediately began vaccinating eligible employees.

COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective. A vaccine booster dose improves protection against COVID-19 variants, including omicron, and is strongly recommended. From our own research here at St. Jude, we know that the COVID-19 vaccines work to prevent infection on our campus.

Now, everyone ages 5 and older is eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. We encourage you to get vaccinated and be a champion for COVID-19 vaccines. The best vaccine to get is the one available to you the soonest. Visit to schedule a vaccine in your community.

St. Jude is proud to be a part of the Memphis community. We look forward to being able to fully enjoy the things we missed during the pandemic – sporting events, live music, Memphis in May International Festival, St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend – and most importantly, gathering safely with family and friends. So, please, get vaccinated and encourage others to do the same.

Vaccines bring us closer to doing what we love with those we love.
