I am a medical graduate of King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan, and completed four years of intensive surgical training at Mayo Hospital Lahore, with focused experience in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. From the earliest days of my medical education, I knew that surgery was my calling. However, it was during my intern year that a rotation in Pediatric Surgery helped refine that passion into a clear direction. I was particularly drawn to the complexity and precision required in managing congenital malformations—cases that demand not only technical excellence but deep compassion. The opportunity to positively impact the life of a child, and by extension an entire family, has been a deeply rewarding experience, one that confirmed my commitment to a surgical career in pediatrics. Over the course of my residency, I developed a growing interest in Surgical Oncology, especially through the care of children diagnosed with tumors such as Wilms’ tumor, neuroblastoma, and teratomas. As the daughter of a cancer survivor, I found a personal connection to these young patients and their families. Their strength and resilience have inspired me and deepened my resolve to contribute meaningfully to this field.
Surgical Oncology appeals to me not only for its technical demands but also for its potential to significantly improve long-term outcomes in patients with life-threatening conditions. The intellectual and emotional challenges posed by these complex cases have been a driving force in my pursuit of advanced training in this specialty. I am thrilled to be a part of the St. Jude family, and I am committed to furthering the cause and values upon which this remarkable institution was built upon.
