St. Jude offers unique opportunities for residents from ACGME-approved residency programs to choose electives in a variety of specialties involving the care of children with malignancies, hematologic disorders, HIV infection or selected immunogenetic disorders. These specialties include:
- Pediatric Anesthesiology
- Pediatric Critical Care
- Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging
- Pediatric Hematology
- Pediatric HIV Care
- Pediatric Infectious Diseases
- Pediatric Oncology including Bone Marrow Transplant
- Pediatric Neuro-Oncology
- Pediatric Pathology
- Pediatric Radiation Oncology
- Pediatric Surgery
Basic and clinical research electives are also offered. Residents interested in a research elective should review the annual Scientific Report to select a program of interest.
The resident's Program Director must approve the elective and provide a letter indicating that salary, malpractice insurance and health care coverage will be provided by the resident's program for the elective.
Neurology Residency Training Program
University of Tennessee residents in neurology rotate to St. Jude for several months as part of their training program. Residents in any ACGME neurology training program may complete an elective month at St. Jude with permission of their program director.
Pediatric Residency Training Program
The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Pediatric and Medicine/Pediatric residents learn to care for the child with leukemia or a solid tumor on the inpatient services at St. Jude for two months during their second year. Residents interested in a career in pediatric hematology or oncology may choose to spend extra elective months at St. Jude.
Residents from American or Canadian ACGME-approved residency programs may come to St. Jude for electives. These electives must be approved by their program directors and by the Clinical CME/GME Committee at St. Jude.
