The St. Jude Communications department and the ALSAC Communications department both strive to protect the confidentiality of patients while maintaining the highest standards of communication with the news media. The St. Jude Communications department and the ALSAC Communications department both do reserve the right to, however, refuse media requests prior to or during your visit especially when a family requests privacy or if a patient’s confidentiality is being compromised.
-
St. Jude does not grade patients based on the American Hospital Association scale; therefore, faculty and staff at St. Jude and ALSAC cannot provide general patient condition information as provided by other hospitals.
-
Limitations regarding patient privacy are imposed by the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Release of detailed information about minors and patients of St. Jude requires prior written consent by the parent, guardian or legal representative.
-
Any patient who has given prior approval to be interviewed, videotaped or photographed on the St. Jude campus (including Tri Delta Place, Ronald McDonald House and Target House) must first sign a St. Jude-approved, HIPAA-compliant consent form.
-
Patient privacy is a priority at St. Jude. All journalists must be escorted at all times by a St. Jude Communications department or ALSAC Communications department representative when on the St. Jude, Tri Delta Place, Ronald McDonald House and Target House campuses.
