What we do

Learn how St. Jude integrates research and clinical care to accelerate cures and share discoveries worldwide.

St. Jude gives kids with cancer and other catastrophic diseases the chance they deserve.

Each year, more than 14,000 children and teens in the U .S. are diagnosed with cancer. Thanks in part to better therapies St. Jude has helped to develop, more than 80% of U.S. childhood cancer patients now become long-term survivors.

But unlike the U.S., in many countries, only 1 out of 5 children who develop cancer will survive. That's why we’re helping make lifesaving treatments available to more children in more places — because where they live shouldn’t determine if they live.

How St. Jude works

We're dedicated to providing the best care for patients and research that leads to cures.

Bench-to-bedside framework

St. Jude is an integrated research and clinical institution where discovery and patient care continuously inform one another. Our bench‑to‑bedside model turns scientific insights into therapies, and patient care into new research questions.

Fundraising

Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. Every gift helps our livesaving mission; find a way to support that works for you.

There are great research institutions, great hospitals and great charities. We're all three.

As a research institution ...

... St. Jude leads more clinical trials for pediatric cancer than any other hospital in the United States. Our laboratories may not be in your community, but our discoveries are. When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate in the U.S. from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Learn more about our research.

As a children's hospital ...

... we believe that every child deserves a chance to live their best life and celebrate every moment. A child's illlness shouldn't rob them of their childhood, which is why we provide services like child life specialists and an onsite school that allows patients to keep up with their elementary through high school curriculum back home. Learn more about what St. Jude provides.

As a charity ...

... we rely on our community of supporters to ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live. Donations also enable St. Jude to give our doctors and researchers the tools and technology they need to make the next groundbreaking discovery. In the years ahead, an estimated 89% of the funds necessary to sustain and grow St. Jude must be raised by ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude, from generous donors. Help us continue our lifesaving work

Treatments for some childhood cancer patients at St. Jude can last more than 3 years and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, in some cases exceeding $1 million. Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from generous donors, we have the freedom to focus on what matters most — saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
