Clinical Education in Rehabilitation Services

Explore the opportunities to develop critical skills in audiology, physical and occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology at St. Jude.

In the St. Jude Rehabilitation Services department, audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists devote their time and effort to improving the health and quality of life of children with cancer, sickle cell disease and other life-threatening illnesses.

Rehabilitation Services is also dedicated to training the next generation of health care professionals in these disciplines. The program offers clinical placements for students who are motivated and want to make a difference in children’s lives. Trainees develop clinical skills through hands-on learning and gain experience in the cutting-edge practices of their chosen profession.

Occupational therapy

Clinical placements

St. Jude offers Occupational Therapy clinical placements for both Level II fieldwork and doctoral capstone experiences. Level II placements are 12 weeks in duration. Students must have successfully completed a prior Level II fieldwork experience before beginning their rotation at St. Jude; experience in acute care is preferred but not required. Students may be placed in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting (at discretion of SJCRH coordinator and availability of clinical instructors).

Doctoral capstone experiences range from 14 to 16 weeks. Capstone projects are individualized based on student goals and have included a variety of focuses, such as clinical practice, research, and program development.

Initial inquiries should be directed through your fieldwork coordinator. The program requires a formal application process for both Level II and doctoral students. Applications are typically open from January to March of the year prior to placement. Applicants must submit a completed application, along with graduate transcripts and letters of recommendation, to be considered for a professional rotation.
