Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Fellowship Program

Discover the Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy Fellowship Program and learn about how it is training the next generation of physician-scientists.

About the program

Clinical fellows in the Bone Marrow Transplantation & Cellular Therapy (BMTCT) Fellowship Program advance patient care and conduct research in one of the largest pediatric BMTCT programs in the world.

The department consists of extremely active research and clinical programs, both of which provide trainees with exposure to standard and cutting-edge approaches in the field. During this one-year fellowship program, fellows treat a high volume of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary environment designed to bolster knowledge and skill in myriad aspects of hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy.

Fellows will gain experience in areas involving:

  • The indications for transplant, cellular and gene therapies
  • Pre-therapy patient evaluation
  • The identification and selection of hematopoietic cell sources, donor registries and methodologies of HLA typing
  • Cell collection, manipulation and preservation procedures
  • Production and administration of cell and gene therapy products
  • The selection and administration of preparative regimens
  • Management of patients receiving cellular and gene therapies
  • The diagnosis and management of regimen-related acute and long-term toxicities

Fellows also regularly participate in clinical research and have immense exposure to clinical trial design and implementation, as well as training in documentation and reporting for patients being treated on investigational trials.
