About the program
The Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship is a one-year Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. This fellowship accepts and trains a total of six fellows annually: three on the adult track and three on the pediatric track. Throughout the program, fellows will have the opportunity to develop skills in complex symptom management and advanced communication while caring for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital-one of the fellowship’s participating sites. Fellows on the pediatric track will spend three months with the months on the St. Jude PALS team, which sees more than 300 new consults and 4,000 encounters annually. They will also spend time with the QoLA Kids program, a community-based palliative care and hospice program through Methodist-Alliance that cares for children who are both at St. Jude and LeBonheur Children’s hospital. In addition, each pediatric and adult fellow will also have a one-month rotation with the pain service at St. Jude. Beyond clinical time at St. Jude, pediatric fellows obtain comprehensive exposure to general pediatric and adult palliative care across settings.
