St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital offers a 12-month ASHP-accredited specialized PGY2 Residency in Oncology Pharmacy. The residency program is offered at an independent children’s hospital, and many of the experiences will focus on the care of pediatric and young adult patients.
This residency experience includes training in general hematology/oncology, bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy, infectious diseases, and ambulatory care. Residents are provided training in applied pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenomics, nutrition support and advanced training in clinical therapeutics of the pediatric cancer patient.
Along with direct patient care responsibilities, residents will have the opportunity to precept Doctor of Pharmacy students, provide didactic lectures, in-services and journal clubs. Residents also participate in various committee meetings within the institution and conduct collaborative clinical research. To develop research skills, residents will be required to participate in an independent research activity, which is expected to result in the submission of a publishable manuscript. Residents will also be required to present research findings at a national pharmacy or scientific organization meeting.
