Pre-College Programs

St. Jude believes the future of biomedical science depends on who we bring into it. St. Jude partners with schools and communities to co-design curriculum and deliver out-of-school programming that connects young people to authentic scientific experiences from an early age.

STEMM Education and Outreach

Science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) are essential to advancing discovery, improving health outcomes, and shaping the future of pediatric medicine. Guided by the vision that every child has the opportunity to see themselves as a scientist, the St. Jude STEMM Education and Outreach Program creates opportunities for learners to engage with authentic STEMM experiences, build confidence in their abilities, and explore future possibilities.

Partnerships

We cultivate partnerships across education, healthcare, industry, government, and community organizations to expand access to STEMM learning opportunities and strengthen the Memphis STEMM Ecosystem. Through collaboration, we work to create a more connected and supportive landscape for learners, educators, and families.

STEMM Pathways

We design and support connected learning experiences that help learners explore STEMM, develop confidence in their abilities, and access opportunities that deepen their engagement with science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine. Our pathways span in-school and out-of-school experiences and support learners across multiple stages of their educational journey.

STEMM Learning Environments

We apply evidence-based approaches to create learning environments where all learners can thrive. Grounded in frameworks such as STEMM Pedagogies of Care, the Whole Scientist Model, and Mentorship as Shared Practice, our work promotes belonging, engagement, and meaningful participation in STEMM learning.

Programs and resources

High School Programs and Internships

For high school students, St. Jude and the STEMM Education and Outreach Program provide numerous opportunities for a variety of learners, from experiential internships to virtual learning modules. A common thread shared amongst these educational opportunities is to learn by doing, while being in a mentored environment.

K-8 Programs

The STEMM Education and Outreach Program hosts a variety of collaboratives to support K-8 educators, from kindergarten all the way through middle school. These include in-school curriculums as well as afterschool activities to support Memphis area schools and teachers.

For Educators

The St. Jude STEMM Education and Outreach Program partners with educators to co-design STEMM curricula, instructional resources, and classroom learning opportunities that connect students to authentic science and biomedical research.

STEMM Education and Outreach internships

Undergraduates with an interest in science education and outreach are encouraged to apply to the STEMM Education and Outreach Internship. Interns will work under the direction of the St. Jude STEMM Education and Outreach team to facilitate the St. Jude Afterschool STEMM Clubs at selected elementary and middle schools in the Memphis area.
