Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Outcomes & Intervention Fellowship

About the program

The St. Jude Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Outcomes & Intervention Fellowship program aims to develop the next generation of scientific leaders with the interdisciplinary skills and knowledge necessary to become world-class, competitive scientists in the area of pediatric cancer survivorship. Fellows benefit from access to unique datasets, including two of the world’s largest pediatric survivorship research studies led by St. Jude, the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort Study (St. Jude LIFE) and the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS). Additionally, they have access to exceptional expertise across the research enterprise and core facilities designed to help advance research endeavors.

The program is unique even among other postdoctoral training programs in that it is currently the only NIH-funded training program with a primary focus on pediatric cancer survivorship.

Curriculum overview

Fellows in the Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Outcomes & Intervention program are supported in their research endeavors through a focused program structure:

  • The Scholarship Oversight Teams comprise a primary and a secondary mentor and a clinical collaborator who offer trainee guidance
  • The Management Committee provides program oversight and reviews the trainee’s progress
  • An Advisory Committee provides program consultation

Fellows undergo both clinical and research training related to cancer survivorship and pediatric oncology, as well as scientific writing and grant preparation and review, with detailed evaluations to track the ongoing progress of the trainees. The program also offers a formal but flexible MSc curriculum in clinical investigation and an MPH curriculum in epidemiology, biostatistics or health systems policy.

Finally, fellows have the option to participate in St. Jude Global Pediatric Medicine, conducting research in Central America, South America, Mexico, the Eastern Mediterranean region, China and Southeast Asia.
