Chinchorreo Chic Gala

Guests at the second annual Chichorreo Chic Gala por los Niños del St. Jude dance while also enjoying food prepared by some of the top chefs in Puerto Rico.

A sell-out crowd of 425 guests turned out for the Chinchorreo Chic Gala por los Niños del St. Jude in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on March 5 in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The gala took place at the Condado Plaza Hilton, and raised more than $170,000 for St. Jude.

Guests at the second-year event enjoyed food prepared by some of the finest chefs in Puerto Rico. Celebrity chef Wilo Benet was on hand to create his take on traditional Puerto Rican cuisine.  Benet is the host of the TV show Sabores de Ensueño con Wilo Benet, author of the cookbook Puerto Rico True Flavors, and has appeared on the television shows Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern, Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, and Martha Stewart Weddings. Benet also participated in last year’s inaugural Chichorreo Chic Gala.

Joining Benet were chefs Mario Pagán, José Santaella, Xavier Pacheco, María Germania and pastry chef Nasha Fonduer. Guests also enjoyed and danced to music by Melina Leon, Plena Libre, and Pirulo y La Tribu throughout the evening.

Sponsors for the event included DIRECTV, AT&T, FirstBank, Autogrupo, and Schuster Aguilo.

Thanks to the generosity of donors at events like these in Puerto Rico and throughout the U.S., families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food —because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
