The South Florida community united against childhood cancer on May 20, when 570 guests filled the InterContinental Miami’s Grand Ballroom at the 15th annual FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Gala.  The annual event, chaired this year by Venezuelan entrepreneur Mashud Mezerhane, raised $1.8 million to help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

At the event, Spanish-language television star Adamari López received the 2017 FedEx/St. Jude Angels & Stars Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to raising funds and awareness about cancer in the Hispanic community.

Julio Barrionuevo, senior vice president of operations for FedEx Express Mexico, Central America, Caribbean and Global Service Partners, also received an award for his commitment and long-time leadership as the gala’s co-founder. St. Jude Angels & Stars, which was co-founded in 2002 by model and entrepreneur Daisy Fuentes, has raised more than $6 million in support of St. Jude.

This year's gala sponsors Bancrédito International Bank, FedEx Express, Carnival Foundation, Grupo Mezerhane, Visa, Mosteiro Family Foundation, Anthony Abraham Foundation, Arca International Group, EFG, International Dermatology Institute, Maximai Partners, One Real Estate Investments, Total Bank, Clarins, Diario Las Américas, C-Comm Group, The Dream Team Agency, Nuage Designs, American Tower Corporation, Arteasans Beverages LLC, Bomnin Chevrolet, Carlos Machado, Marco & Claudia de Souza, Ernst & Young, PVG Insurance Group, Superior Landscaping & Lawn Service, YEZZ, T-Be Global Spirits and  Edrington USA.
