Robby Krieger, legendary rock guitarist for The Doors, and renowned sports artist Scott Medlock once again teamed up to host the star-studded Medlock-Krieger Golf Classic & All-Star Concert to benefit the lifesaving mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. On Aug. 27 – 28, at the Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu, Calif., more than $617,000 was raised, bringing the event’s grand total to more than $2.5 million. This support helps ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Since Danny Thomas began pursuing his dream in the 1950s of a children’s hospital that would treat children with cancer and search relentlessly for cures, the St. Jude mission has enjoyed tremendous support from friends in the entertainment industry. The annual two-day Medlock-Krieger event continued that tradition this year with music from the likes of Krieger, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Richie Sambora of Bon Jovi, Tommy Thayer of KISS, David Sikes of Boston, Terri Nunn of Berlin and Jason Scheff of Chicago, among others. A live auction that night raised more than $247,000, and the fun continued the following day with a golf tournament at North Ranch Country Club. More than 185 golfers enjoyed a day of golf, a chance to win various hole-in-one prizes and a post-golf, 19th Hole reception featuring golf awards, live music and a tasting menu from various restaurants.

Not only is Robby Krieger among Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” he is also an accomplished painter whose work has earned acclaim worldwide. Scott Medlock has worked with many of the greatest names in sports history, including legends Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Dick Butkus, as well as Olympic athletes.

The friends’ partnership with St. Jude began on a golf course when Medlock met ALSAC President and CEO Richard C. Shadyac Jr. at the Patrick Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament. Impressed by the St. Jude mission, Medlock called Krieger the next day to relay his enthusiasm to become involved.

“The work they do at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is some of the most important work anyone can do: helping children,” Krieger said. “Outside touring, this is something on my schedule that I look forward to the entire year because of what this means for so many people.”

Event sponsors included presenting sponsor Microsemi, venue host Saddlerock Ranch, Monster Energy, Hyatt Residence Club and Vista Auto.
