Emerging Leaders in Biomedical Research

An academic year and summer mentored research opportunity for undergraduates.

The Emerging Leaders in Biomedical Research Program is a new initiative sponsored by the St. Jude STEMM Education and Outreach Program. This program aims to develop future leaders in biomedical research by providing them with mentored research experiences at St. Jude coupled with intentional leadership training, which include topics such as laboratory management and effective mentorship. Students will then have the opportunity to practice these skills alongside their mentor with high school students during the summer months. Space is available for up to 25 interns.

Duration of the program

The Emerging Leaders in Biomedical Research Program is an academic year and summer mentored research opportunity.  The program runs from September 2026 through July 2027.

Student eligibility

Eligible Memphis-area undergraduate students must:

  • Be a current freshman or sophomore at the time of application
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
  • Complete the online application
  • Submit an official transcript
  • Submit a current resume

Student compensation

All students will receive a stipend and are expected to work 20 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week during the summer months of June and July.
