Certain spaces across the St. Jude campus carry special significance. These are the places where our history, our mission and the stories of those who have worked and been treated here come into focus.
Inpatient rooms
Most patients at St. Jude receive care as outpatients, but when an inpatient stay is needed, the experience is designed around comfort, family connection, and safety. St. Jude has five inpatient units across Kay Research and Care Center and Chili’s Care Center, with dedicated spaces for intensive care, bone marrow transplant, hematology, oncology, brain tumors, and neurological disorders. Each patient room is private and includes an attached parent/caregiver room, bathroom, television and phone.
Families also have access to room service, 24-hour nutrition centers, laundry rooms, and inpatient activity spaces that include teen, pre-teen, the Imagine Room, and music therapy rooms. These spaces are supported by full care teams who help patients and families move through treatment while preserving as much normalcy as possible during a child’s stay.
Laboratories
Research at St. Jude is powered by more than brilliant ideas. It depends on the physical spaces, advanced technologies, and shared resources that make ambitious science possible. Across campus, faculty, trainees, clinicians and research staff work in an environment designed to accelerate discovery. St. Jude is home to 140+ fundamental and translational research labs, 20+ shared resources, data science capabilities and computing centers, and specialized technologies that support work across disciplines. This infrastructure gives investigators access to tools and expertise that would be difficult to create in individual labs, enabling faster progress from fundamental discovery to clinical insight.
From cryo-electron microscopy to high-throughput sequencing, NMR spectroscopy to proteomics and clinical grade manufacturing, St. Jude is unique in its connection between space, technology, and mission.

The Danny Thomas Research Center, one of our earliest dedicated research spaces, stands at the heart of campus. Inside is the Gallery of Pioneers, a tribute to the leaders, visionaries and pioneers whose commitment helped build St. Jude into what it is today.
Flags from nations around the world hang overhead to represent the global reach of work that began in Memphis. Below the flags are portraits of some of the scientists, clinicians and leaders who shaped our history and advanced our mission across decades. At the center of it all, a bronze bust of St. Jude founder Danny Thomas stands as a symbole of the founding promise that set everything in motion.

Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center
Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center: The future of discovery
Our 625,000 square-foot Inspiration4 Advanced Research Center was built to support the idea that discovery accelerates when the right minds work in genuine proximity. Named after the first all-civilian mission to orbit the Earth (for which St. Jude was the charitable beneficiary), the center brings together research across developmental neurobiology, immunology, genomics, gene editing, epigenetics and advancing imaging. The building is not just a laboratory, it's statement about how St. Jude believes discovery happens — not in isolation, but at the intersection of disciplines, technologies, and minds working toward the same goal.

Patient housing: A home away from home
When a child comes to St. Jude for treatment, their family comes too. St. Jude operates a coordinated network of housing facilities that can accommodate hundreds of families simultaneously, each designed for a different stage of the treatment journey:
The Domino’s Village – 140 units connected to campus by a pedestrian bridge, with dining, an on-site clinic, wellness spaces and family gathering areas
Target House – apartment-style living for longer treatment journeys, with full kitchens, playroom and communal programming
Tri-Delta Place – hotel-style short-term lodging located directly on campus
Ronald McDonald House of Memphis – additional short-term lodging with shared community and dining spaces

Danny Thomas/ALSAC Pavilion: A mission made visible
The Danny Thomas–ALSAC Pavilion is where the story of the founding of St. Jude comes alive. Marble columns rise beneath a soaring rotunda. Exhibits trace the life of Danny Thomas, an entertainer, visionary and philanthropist who turned a promise into one of the world's most influential medical institutions. Memorabilia, photographs and interactive displays tell the story of how a dream became a hospital, and how that hospital became a global force in pediatric medicine.
It's also a gathering place for donors, partners, families and team members who come together around a shared belief that no child should be denied the chance to live.

Danny and Rose Marie Thomas Memorial Garden: A place for reflection
Tucked into the heart of the campus, shaded by more than 60 trees and softened by the sound of cascading water, the Danny and Rose Marie Thomas Memorial Garden offers stillness in a place defined by urgency.
The garden was created to honor the founder of St. Jude and his wife Rose Marie, whose belief that no child should die in the dawn of life gave this institution its soul. They're buried here, at the center of the place Danny Thomas built, surrounded by the mission to which they dedicated their lives.
For patients, families, staff and visitors, the garden is an invitation to pause. To breathe. To remember why all of this exists.
