What you can expect at CLS 2019

  • leadership and fundraising training 
  • executive leadership speakers from ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude
  • immersion in the St. Jude mission, including a hospital tour, hospital guests and patient family speakers 
  • a Memphis experience, including a tour of the National Civil Rights Museum
  • peer-to-peer brainstorming and strategy building

Committing to the CLS Experience

  1. St. Jude is investing in you as a leader to bring the mission of St. Jude to your campus communities. By registering, you’ve committed to attending Collegiate Leadership Seminar in its entirety. Students may not skip sessions and should not commit to attending CLS unless they are able to completely confirm their availability for June 26 – 28 (including travel time required).

  2. The 2019 St. Jude Collegiate Leadership Seminar is a substance-free event with a zero tolerance policy for violations. This policy also includes smoking of any kind. Students are not permitted to leave the hotel lobby for smoke breaks.

  3. Students must agree to stay at the seminar at all times, and may not leave the lobby of the Peabody at any time. This policy also applies to students who live locally.

  4. Students should not plan to stay in Memphis prior to or following the seminar. Written approval from a parent/guardian to visit family in the Memphis-area may be granted with prior approval.

 

Preparing for CLS

  1. Be sure to pack...

    • legal ID
    • travel itinerary
    • credit/debit card (required for hotel incidentals)
    • laptop and charger (fully charged laptop needed for Thursday Sessions) 
    • cell phone and charger
    • reusable water bottle
    • think “Snappy Casual” - comfortable but presentable for guest speakers
    • university shirts are encouraged on Wednesday
    • bring comfortable walking shoes
    • our venue is briskly air-conditioned (sweater, light jackets encouraged) despite outside temperatures of 80+ degrees.
    • 90’s attire – there will be a themed 90’s event on Thursday – you will not have time to change into your 90s outfit prior to the event, so please come ready in your outfit Thursday morning.
 

 

Travel and hotel reminders

  1. Connect with your St. Jude Rep. A St. Jude Rep attending CLS will be your point of contact during the seminar. Save their contact info in case any travel issues or questions arise.

    If you're flying...

    • plan ahead for travel to/from your home airport.
    • ensure you have your ticketed flight itinerary, provided by your St. Jude Representative (should be received by June 1).
    • we recommend students plan to pack in a carry on to avoid baggage fees.
    • shuttles will transport you from the Memphis Airport to the Peabody Hotel. Uniformed staff with St. Jude signs will greet you at Baggage Claim upon arrival.

    If you're driving...

    • gas will be reimbursed by your St. Jude Representative
    • parking will be covered by St. Jude at the Peabody Hotel
  2. Students must agree to stay at the seminar at all times, and may not leave the lobby of the Peabody at any time. This policy also applies to students who live locally.

    Arrival: 

    • Please plan to arrive no later than 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26. We highly encourage you to arrive early to check in and attend our pre-conference session at 10 a.m. 
    • Lunch will be held from noon - 1 p.m.  Programming starts promptly at 1 p.m.
    • If you are arriving during lunch/close to the start of programming, you will be asked to register for the conference and leave your luggage in a holding room and join the seminar immediately. You will have time to check into your hotel later, but we don’t want you to miss a second of our powerful opening sessions!
    • Once arrived, registration will be in the Bert Parker room of the Peabody.

    Departure:

    • Please plan to depart immediately following the seminar (by 10 a.m. on Friday, June 28). Students may not prolong trip in Memphis without expressed authorization from parent/guardian that has been approved by St. Jude in advance of the seminar.
    • The last airport shuttle leaves the hotel at 10 a.m. on Friday for ALL departures back to the airport.
    • Hotel accommodations at the Peabody are provided by St. Jude during the seminar.  
    • Students will be paired with a roommate of the same gender. Roommate pair preferences are not guaranteed so please be open to meeting new people!
    • Important reminder:  You will be asked to provide a debit or credit card for incidentals when you check into your hotel. Fund holds may be applied to debit cards by the hotel, so credit cards are recommended.
