First Lady Michelle Obama Visits St. Jude This Wednesday

A press release from the Office of the First Lady announcing that First Lady Michelle Obama will visit St. Jude this Wednesday, September 17:

THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the First Lady FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 15, 2014

UPCOMING GUIDANCE FOR FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA
Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Memphis, TN * 3:30 PM local — On Wednesday afternoon, the First Lady will travel to Memphis, TN to visit children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way in which the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Their services — including treatment, housing, travel, and food — are provided to patients free of charge. Additionally, St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for some of the most aggressive childhood cancers, and treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90% in the next decade. Former First Ladies Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, and Hillary Clinton also visited St. Jude during their time as First Lady.

The First Lady will visit with St. Jude patients in the Activity Room.

This portion of Mrs. Obama’s visit will be open press but space is limited. Members of the media who wish to cover the open press portion of the First Lady’s visit must RSVP by 10:00 AM ET, Tuesday, September 16, 2014. Due to space limitations, this event is not open to the general public. For questions, please contact Kelly Schulz or Mike Bulthaus at 800-660-7334 or pressevent@stjude.org.

Later in the afternoon, the First Lady will tour the hospital and visit children receiving treatment.
