The 15th annual Fitness for a Cure family event and gala in Lowell, Massachusetts, raised more than $400,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital March 22, bringing the event total to $2.8 million.
Presented by Flexecution Inc., Fitness for a Cure featured the St. Jude Performance Team in family-friendly fitness performances on the stage of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The team includes more than 100 children and was established by Sherri Laffey Sarrouf, president and owner of SLS Fitness and event chair for Fitness for a Cure.
“We are so thrilled to have raised more than $400,000 for the first time ever in our 15-year history. I am so proud of what our team was able to accomplish. What a great day for the kids of St. Jude,” said Sarrouf, whose husband Camille Sarrouf Jr., serves as second vice chair of the St. Jude Board of Governors. Paul Ayoub, first vice chair of the ALSAC Board of Directors, also attended the event.
Led by Sherri Sarrouf, the St. Jude Performance Team was established to raise money and awareness for St. Jude. The group performs for patients and their families every other year at St. Jude.
“As a local business owner and proud mother of two healthy children, I cannot think of a more compelling way to support the lifesaving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” she said. “The St. Jude Performance Team works year-round in their fight against childhood cancer.”
More than 1,100 people attended the day-time family event and the evening gala, where guests heard from a current St. Jude patient and from Emily Callahan, chief marketing officer for ALSAC/St. Jude. In addition to the fitness show, guests were treated to a cocktail reception, dinner and auction.
