St. Jude has been ranked among the top 10 children’s hospitals for cancer by U.S. News & World Report for 18 consecutive years.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was recognized today as one of the top 10 pediatric cancer hospitals for the 18th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. Since the ranking’s inception in 2008, St. Jude has consistently earned a place among the nation’s best for pediatric oncology.
Each year, U.S. News evaluates approximately 100 hospitals with pediatric oncology programs and ranks the top 50 based on clinical data and a survey of pediatric specialists. Criteria include clinical resources such as bone marrow transplantation services, brain tumor and sarcoma programs, and FACT accreditation, as well as compliance with best practices and patient outcomes such as mortality and infection rates.
This ranking was published just one week after Forbes ranked St. Jude No. 2 in the Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals list, demonstrating that the hospital is a great place to work as well as a leading institution for treating pediatric cancer.
"Eighteen years of recognition reflects the relentless drive of our clinical teams to improve the lives of children with cancer,” said Ellis J. Neufeld, MD, PhD, St. Jude executive vice president and clinical director. “Their compassion, innovation and pursuit of excellence continue to set the standard for pediatric care."
St. Jude is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center dedicated solely to children. It has received the highest possible rating of “exceptional” in its last three NCI reviews and leads numerous groundbreaking clinical trials with national and international collaborators.
"Our Comprehensive Cancer Center is built to accelerate discovery and deliver transformative care,” said Charles W.M. Roberts, MD, PhD, St. Jude executive vice president and Cancer Center director. “By uniting scientists and clinicians, we’re advancing therapies like immunotherapy and precision medicine to improve survival and long-term outcomes for children everywhere."
St. Jude maintains top survival rates for childhood cancers, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia and medulloblastoma. Its cancer center programs and centers of excellence in leukemia, in brain tumors and in immuno-oncology together drive progress in treatment and survivorship.
The hospital also leverages its Center of Excellence in Data-Driven Discovery and the St. Jude Cloud platform to share genomic data and foster global collaboration, accelerating breakthroughs in pediatric cancer research.
"To be named among the top children’s cancer hospitals every year since the rankings began is a reflection of our people—their brilliance, their heart and their unwavering commitment to our mission,” said James R. Downing, MD, St. Jude president and chief executive officer. “In the past year, we’ve made bold strides in science, care and global impact, and we remain focused on finding cures and saving children worldwide."
