The Information Services Internship Program at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital offers motivated undergraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare IT environment. Interns will collaborate with experienced IT professionals on meaningful projects that support the hospital’s mission, while developing technical and professional skills.

Location: All internships are based on-site in Memphis, TN.
Program Dates: Monday, June 1st, 2026 – Friday, August 7th, 2026
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday during standard business hours (8AM – 5PM)
Compensation: Interns will receive a stipend. Housing, food, and transportation are the responsibility of the intern.

This specific internship will be working with the Technology Services Department.

 The intern should be proficient in the following areas.

  • Exhibit a strong desire to learn and be motivated to grow in the field of Enterprise Networking, System Administration,Cloud Computing, Endpoint Device Management, Collaboration, Infrastructure Automation, and/or Observability.
  • Have a basic understanding of the role technology infrastructure plays in system connectivity and application delivery.
  • Familiarity with development practices and automation tools to streamline processes and enhance efficiency in IT operations.
  • Understanding of observability tools and modern monitoring practices, including the use of telemetry, logs, and traces to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Strong ability to think holistically and combine fragmented concepts into actionable tasks.

The intern experience will include:

  • Looking at Technology Infrastructure from an automation and observability perspective to better understand technology infrastructure needs.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce process toil by deploying Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Identifying opportunities to increase service operational status through observability and front-end design.
  • Documenting repeatable team functions to create operational playbooks.
  • Exploring cloud computing solutions to enhance scalability, flexibility, and efficiency of infrastructure deployment and management.

Learning fundamental infrastructure skills for networking, server, data center, and endpoint management to build a strong foundation in IT operations.Work with technical teams to learn the environment well enough to make accurate supporting decisions for automation and observability strategies.

Program Highlights

  • Project-Based Work: Interns will be assigned to specific projects aligned with departmental goals and institutional strategy.
  • Capstone Presentation: The program concludes with a formal presentation to senior IT leadership.
  • Professional Development: Interns will participate in executive-led training sessions, hospital tours, and networking events.
  • Mentorship: Each intern will be paired with a dedicated mentor for guidance and support throughout the program.

Learning Opportunities

Interns will gain exposure to a wide range of IT functions and initiatives, including:

  • Brainstorming and developing innovative solutions to enhance IT services for hospital staff and patient care.
  • Participating in executive-led training sessions on key IT topics.
  • Collaborating on projects that align with the hospital’s strategic direction.
  • Building relationships with professionals across departments.
  • Engaging in enrichment activities such as hospital tours and networking events.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program and entering sophomore, junior, or senior year.
  • All majors are welcome; preference is given to students pursuing a major or minor in computer science or related IT fields.
  • minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. GPA will be verified through transcripts and advisor communication.
  • Any exceptions must be approved by the VP of Academic Programs.

  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills

COVID-19 Policy

As of September 10, 2021, St. Jude requires all employees, contractors, and interns to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless a medical or religious exemption has been approved. Proof of vaccination is required.

The application for Summer 2026 is now open and closes on Monday December 8th, 2025, at midnight.

To apply, submit the following via the official application portal. A student can apply to a maximum of 3 Teams in one application entry. (not via Handshake or other platforms):

  • Cover Letter (include the specific internship you’re applying for and how it aligns with your academic and career goals)
  • Resume (including any relevant work or internship experience)
  • Any Reference Letter

Applicants can check their application status through their CollegeNET account.

Virtual interviews will be conducted in Late November/Early December 2025 and offers will be extended in December. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of December 2025.
