Internships

An internship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gives you a unique training experience while helping children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude offers internships, externships and other short-term training opportunities in areas as diverse as the hospital itself: from patient care and scientific research, to volunteer services, law and information technology.

  1. Interns in the Child Life Department work closely with experienced child life specialists and families coping with chronic illness. The 16-week internship includes clinical rotations and educational seminars and is designed for college seniors, college graduates and master's students with backgrounds in child development, education, psychology or related fields.

  2. The Clinical Nutrition Department offers training opportunities for dietetic interns and dietitians interested in understanding the nutritional management of pediatric patients with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

  3. The Information Services internship program offers motivated individuals an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the hospital’s Information Services Department. Interns work side-by-side with experienced information technology professionals and gain insight into the fast-paced world of health care IT.

  4. The Office of Legal Services offers immersive legal internships for second- and third-year law students. Interns work closely with in-house and outside counsel on substantive projects in many aspects of the law, with excellent mentoring, opportunities and client interactions.

  5. The renowned Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program offers funded summer internships in laboratory or clinical research for some of the country's top undergraduate, medical and graduate students.

  6. Predoctoral trainees may pursue pediatric psychology and neuropsychology rotations in the St. Jude Department of Psychology. These internships are part of the APA-approved University of Tennessee Professional Psychology Internship Consortium.

  7. The Volunteer Services Department offers funded full-time internships for qualified undergraduate and master’s students. Interns gain well-rounded experience in many areas, including organizing programs and events, motivating and supervising volunteers, writing print materials, and performing office and data management functions.
