An internship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gives you a unique training experience while helping children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude offers internships, externships and other short-term training opportunities in areas as diverse as the hospital itself: from patient care and scientific research, to volunteer services, law and information technology.

  1. The Cancer Education and Outreach internships are project focused with exposure to various applications of cancer education and outreach. Interns will work under the direction of the St. Jude Cancer Education and Outreach team to facilitate the St. Jude Afterschool STEM Clubs in select elementary schools in the Memphis area.

  2. Interns in the Child Life Department work closely with experienced child life specialists and families coping with chronic illness. The 16-week internship includes clinical rotations and educational seminars and is designed for college seniors, college graduates and master's students with backgrounds in child development, education, psychology or related fields.

  3. The Family, Guest and Volunteer Services Department offers funded full-time internships for qualified undergraduate and master’s students in the fall, spring and summer. Interns gain well-rounded experience in many areas, including organizing meetings, programs and events, motivating and supervising volunteers, writing print materials, hosting appreciation activities, and performing office and data management functions. Interns in this department gain exposure broadly to many departments and services across the organization.

    The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Healthcare Administration Internship offers a motivated individual an opportunity to spend a summer placement with the Strategic Planning Office and the Chief Administrative and Financial Officer departments.

  5. The Human Resources Internship offers motivated individuals an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the Human Resources department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  6. The Information Services internship program offers motivated individuals an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the hospital’s Information Services Department. Interns work side-by-side with experienced information technology professionals and gain insight into the fast-paced world of health care IT.

  7. The Office of Legal Services offers immersive legal internships for second- and third-year law students. Interns work closely with in-house and outside counsel on substantive projects in many aspects of the law, with excellent mentoring, opportunities and client interactions.

  8. This six-month, 1040-hour Music Therapy Internship program allows interns to work beside music therapists, supporting patients and families in the pediatric hematology/oncology setting.

  9. Patient and Family Experience interns will work side-by-side with hospital leaders on projects in a professional environment to gain insight and experience into the world of patient and family experience as well as healthcare administration.

  10. The renowned Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program offers funded summer internships in laboratory or clinical research for some of the country's top undergraduate, medical and graduate students.

  11. Predoctoral trainees may pursue pediatric psychology and neuropsychology rotations in the St. Jude Department of Psychology. These internships are part of the APA-approved University of Tennessee Professional Psychology Internship Consortium.

  12. The Quality of Life Services/Bereavement Program intern will gain experience and insight into the bereavement care provided for families at St. Jude work by working closely with the Quality of Life psychologist/bereavement coordinator.   The intern will also gain exposure to the palliative and end-of-life care provided to St. Jude patients and families.  This is a funded part-time/full-time internship for qualified undergraduate and master’s students in the fall, spring and summer.

    • Spring 2020 semester - October 31, 2019
    • Summer 2020 semester – December 30, 2019
    • Fall 2020 semester – April 30, 2020

  13. The Security Management Internship is project-focused with exposure to various components of the working environment within St. Jude’s Security department.

  14. Interns in Social Work will work closely with our experienced social workers while providing counseling to help patients and families cope with diagnosis and treatment. During the internship, you will gain experience in several major medical service areas including, Leukemia/Lymphoma, Bone Marrow Transplant, Solid Tumor, Neuro-Oncology, Hematology, HIV, and Cancer Survivorship.

    Social Work offers a limited number of second-year or advanced standing master’s level internships each year. Master’s level interns must be in a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. We also offer one senior-year bachelor’s level internship each year.

  15. The Strategic Communication, Education and Outreach Department will be accepting six (6) interns for Summer 2022. This internship will be project-focused with exposure to various components of the public relations working environment. Interns will work side-by-side with communications experts and practitioners in a professional environment to gain insight and experience into the inner workings of a health care communications team.
