Dr. Fernando C. Alsina earned his PhD from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he also completed a short postdoctoral stay before continuing his postdoctoral research at Duke University. Dr. Alsina leads a laboratory dedicated to understanding how neural differentiation, maturation and connectivity are achieved during brain development, with a focus on novel RNA-based and cytoskeletal regulatory mechanisms.
Dr. Alsina is an Assistant Member in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, and his laboratory utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to investigate how neural cells coordinate the cytoskeleton and the transcriptome. He is also interested in understanding how dysregulation of these processes contributes to neurodevelopmental disorders. The Alsina lab is part of the Center for Pediatric Neurological Disease Research within the Pediatric Translational Neuroscience Initiative (PTNI) at St. Jude.
