About Joseph T. Opferman

After earning his B.S. from the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Joseph T. Opferman went on the complete his PhD with Dr. Phillip Ashton-Rickardt studying the development of cytotoxic T memory cells. He developed an interest in understanding how effector T cell numbers fluctuate during an immune response, and so continued his training as a postdoc with Dr. Stanley Korsmeyer at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School. Dr. Opferman was recruited to St. Jude as an Assistant Member in the Department of Biochemistry in 2005 and promoted to Associate Member in 2011. Since 2014, he has directed a research lab in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology studying the underpinnings of cell fate decisions in normal and malignant cells.
